"Orange Is The New Black" New York Premiere

After making history as the first openly transgender actress to cover Time magazine, Laverne Cox snagged an Emmy nomination for “Out Standing Guest Actress” for her role in “Orange Is The New Black”.

The 30 year old actress who plays Miss Sophia Burset in the Netflix hit series is having one incredible year. In a recent interview with the Hollywood reporter she opened up about her Emmy nomination stating:

“I’m on cloud nine. I’m through the roof. We’re definitely part of a [cultural] moment. What a wonderful, wonderful day for ‘Orange’ and for black trans-women. People are obsessed. Would you ever have thought a show about a women’s prison would have this moment? It’s unbelievable.”

When asked about this being a huge milestone for the LGBT community she stated:

“It’s recognition of a community that very much needs and wants to be recognized, understood and rewarded. I think that Laverne as both an activist and an actor is doing a Herculean job of bringing transgenderism to the forefront of American politics and culture.”

Congrats to Miss Sophia and the entire cast of Orange Is The New Black!
