Nicki Minaj Speaks Out Regarding Her Shade But No Shade Acceptance Speech At The BET Awards

For the fifth year in a row Nick Minaj took home the award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist at the 2014 BET Awards. During her acceptance she didn’t mention any names but it was clear that she was throwing shade at her only competition in the category Iggy Azalea. It’s been rumors that T.I. writes Iggy’s rhymes and Nicki let it be known that she pens her own lyrics and has never needed any help from her boss Lil Wayne.

I’m working on an album coming out at the end of the year called The Pink Print. That’s not a plug, but it’s a plug. My point is, what I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it. And no shade no shade, no shade.

After social media accused Nicki of suggesting T.I.’s Australian MC don’t write her own rhymes, she decided to clear up the controversy surrounding her acceptance speech via twitter.

The media puts words in my mouth all the time and this is no different. I will always take a stance on women writing b/c I believe in us! I believe we’re smart enough to write down our own thoughts and perspective, just like the men do. I’ve been saying this for 5 YEARS. I fell in love with Lauryn Hill b/c I knew she was the author behind those amazingly profound and articulated songs on the MisEducation.. I wondered how Lauryn tapped into my brain and wrote an album on love, betrayal, passion, pain, triumph, brokenness…. Did she read minds? It’s the same reason I have a different level of respect for Missy. I know she’s a writer and a producer. Women MUST aspire for more. I’ve congratulated Iggy on the success of Fancy, publicly. She should be very proud of that. All the women nominated should b proud. That will never change my desire to motivate women to write. Our voices have to be heard. I hope I inspire up & coming females to do that.

Iggy has definitely been holding her own and dominating the charts with #1 and #2 singles in the country. I think it would be dope for Nicki and Iggy to collaborate however I highly doubt that will happen anytime soon.
