Exclusive Interview: Tamar Braxton Talks Weight Gain, Relationships & Miley Cyrus VMA Performance

Yesterday R&B singer/reality star Tamar Braxton made a pit stop in Detroit to promote her new album “Love & War”. I had the opportunity to catch up with Tay Tay, and we chatted about everything from her relationship with her sisters, her special bond with her husband Vincent Herbert and Miley Cyurs performance at the VMA’s.

During our interview she also opened up about weighing over 200 pounds when she gave birth to her son Logan and revealed her secret to shedding the weight. I must admit this was one of the best interviews I’ve ever did because Tamar was so open, down to earth not to mention a fun person to be around.

Check out a few highlights from the interview below:

On if she felt any pressure on releasing her 2nd and 3rd single after her first single Love & War was so successful:

I didn’t feel any pressure, I’m not a chart watcher and I didn’t want to get caught up. I’m caught up in the records, I’m caught up with how my songs make me feel and I love every single song on my album and no matter how many units it sell or how many singles it sell I don’t care about that. I just want people to feel good and relate to everything I relate to because I am a real woman at the end of the day.

On if her new talk show “The Real” was the reason she couldn’t commit to Tiny’s talk show on VH1:

No, The Tiny show I couldn’t commit to because it was on a completely different cable network and were on WETV. So I only did two episodes and that was it.

On Toni Braxton recent wardrobe malfunction:

First of all she’s a true professional and she’s a icon and things like that happen all the time. It was just that somebody was in the audience and decided to put it up. It’s not the first time I’ve seen a performers entire behind

Any regrets on doing reality television:

Yes because I am so opinionated and I didn’t know that I didn’t have a filter, and I didn’t know that I work on my sisters nerves as much as I do. I am happy that I did the show because it allowed me to grow as a woman and as a human being, because had I not did the show I would probably still be all in my sisters business giving my unsolicited advise.

On certain people coming for her on twitter:

Well it’s a lot of people on twitter that I haven’t even met so I treat them just like the regular twitter people who is not in the public eye, I block you! And some of them been block for over a year now.

On her rocky relationship with her sisters last season on Braxton Family Values:

You know what as sisters you kinda have rough patches and this is the first time I kinda detached myself and focused on my individual goals. And if that seemed selfish to them, well now I can see how that seemed selfish to them because they’re use to always having me around and always working on their nerves. But that’s just something that we went through and we are sisters and we will always be here for each other.

On her sisters saying her husband Vince was her velcro

They tried it! We been velcro for over 10 years.

On her weight-loss secret after having her son Logan:

Well I broke up with food permanently. When I was pregnant I ate everything because I am a foodie anyway. But before I was pregnant I was addicted to spinning and that is how I was able to keep my foodie addiction away from people. But I had to stop eating everything I was eating but I’ll be back.

On if she gained a lot of weight during her pregnancy:

Yes I did! I gave birth at 205 pounds. But I developed preeclampsia, that’s when your blood pressure is out of control and your body swells so most of that was fluid.

On if she plans on using her (eggs) aka her 4 babies that she currently have stored in the freezer:

Not for me, GOD no! Either they stay frozen and they thaw out in somebody else but not in this body lol.

On how she keeps her relationship going strong with her husband Vince:

We get to that point sometime just like every other couple. But you know how you’re in a relationship and you love that person but you don’t like them? I loooooove dude! He’s my buddy, he’s my friend, and we can talk about anything. He really is my rib….

On listening to her husband and taking his advise when he told her not to be in a rush to release her album “Love & War”:

I am happy because right smack in the middle of me finishing my album I changed my record label. And had that not happened it probably would have got lost in the sauce and ain’t nobody got time for that! My record is way to dope for that to happen. I am glad that I listen to Vince because he knows what he’s doing plus it’s not like I met him at the car wash and he became my manager he has been in this industry longer than I have.

On reality shows being scripted:

Well our show is 100 percent honest they are not scripted at all, sometimes I wish but it’s not…

On Miley Cyrus performance at the VMA’s

Miley Cyrus to me is trying to figure it out and we are going to keep her at the top of the prayer list. Although I do think she can sing her face off, she can really really sing.

On Beyonce’s chopping off her hair:

Beyonce’s hair cut I thought it was so brave of her because I could never do that. I am a weave, wig fanatic. But see how my girl put it right back in, I feel her on that. It was cute for 24hrs boo but let me put this back in! But I love that she just showed her true self and she’s not afraid, that takes guts. Big ups to you Bey.

I just feel like sometime you have to better yourself and when people have given up on you, you don’t give up on yourself. Because at the end of the day you are all you have.

Stay tuned for part 2 of my interview with Tamar..
